Protect the Human Amnesty International Playwriting Competition:
Amnesty International UK has joined forces with Ice and Fire Theatre to offer playwriting competition for compassionate and provocative scripts.
Their goals are expressed on their website: our aim is to harness theatre's ability to make real and relevant the impact of human rights on our everyday lives. To do this we are looking for insightful and engaging plays that imaginatively interpret this aim.
The winning playwright will receive over $5000 dollars (paid in British pounds). The play will be developed by various theaters throughout England.

BMI Composer / Lyricist Workshop:
BMI ( Broadcast Music Inc.) sponsors this renowned workshop. Participants attend on a weekly basis from September until May. Throughout the program, composers and lyricists hone their skills, collaborate with fellow song writers, and develop projects for musical theater. Past workshop members include Edward Kleban of A Chorus Line fame and the creators of Avenue Q. Who will be the next big thing on Broadway? He or she will probably spring forth from this wonderful workshop.

The Kennedy Center: New Visions / New Voices:
This opportunity provides a week-long residency to playwrights and professional theaters. New works for young audiences will be given life with readings and advice from directors and producers. The application process is a bit daunting because the writers work must be submitted by a legitimate theater company.

This grant-making organization seeks projects written by female playwrights. They offer grants of up to $2000 for works that promote cultural diversity, community-based leadership, and open-mindedness.

The Yale Drama Series:
If you admire playwright Edward Albee as much as I do, youll want to explore this incredible competition. The Yale Drama Series seeks new voices of the Theatre, and the search is led by prestigious judges such as Mr. Albee. If you have a cutting-edge full-length play, by all means submit to this competition!

The winner of this annual competition will be awarded the David C. Horn Prize of $10,000, publication of his/her manuscript by Yale University Press, and a staged reading at Yale Rep. The winning play will be selected by series judge David Hare.
