Baker's Plays: High School Playwriting Contest
Baker’s Plays has a long-standing tradition of fostering young talent. Every year they host their High School Playwriting Competition.The plays can be any length or subject, so long as they are penned by a student. Therefore, scripts must be accompanied by a signature from a drama or English teacher, verifying the author’s “high school” status.
Winners receive a cash prize of $500 and a publication contract.

Boston Theatre Works
Looking to break out of the mold? Boston Theatre Works: Unbound 2008 seeks innovative, never-before-produced scripts that put a new twist on the way we view plays.Between three and six plays are selected for “professional” workshop. The grand prize is $500. There are two secondary prizes of $250. There is a $15 reading fee.

Southern Playwright Competition
Are you a “Southern playwright”? This particular competition offers a $1000 first prize, but is only open to writers who hail from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, or West Virginia. (Sorry Missouri!)The Southern Playwright Competition is hosted annually by Jacksonville State University. Aside from the monetary award, the winning playwright gets to see his/her work produced by the college.

Grants for Women Playwrights
The International Centre for Women Playwrights offers grants for female scribes. According to their website, it seems that the “professional development” grants are available to members only (and a basic membership fee is $15 a year).Note: The website also sports a helpful contact list of women playwrights from around the world.
