Stage Directions - Stage Left, Stage Right, Upstage and Downstage

When standing on the stage, an actor can interpret "stage left" and "stage right" simply as "left" and "right."

Imagine a director is sitting in the audience and he instructs, "Move stage left." The actress on stage would then move to her left.
