I am spreading the word about an upcoming playwriting competition at Lourdes University. This sounds like a great opportunity for up-and-coming playwrights hoping to see their work come to life on the stage.
From the campus website:
"The competition is open to all playwrights 18 years of age and older. Entries must be one-act stage plays with performance times of 8 to 15 minutes. Submissions are restricted to original dramatic works that have not been previously published or produced outside of an academic environment. Scripts will be judged on concept, dramatic action, characterization and dialogue. Lourdes University Drama Society reserves the right to produce the winning plays. The deadline for entries is a postmark of October 15, 2012."
In addition to being produced and performed, the top playwrights will receive a monetary prize as well: $250 for first place, $100 for second, and $50 for third. (Not too shabby for the $5 entry fee, plus the fee is waived for Dramatist Guild members.)
