Piper's Opera House - Theatre of the Old West

By , About.com Guide

Thespians in the Old West?

Yes, even cowboys and dusty old gold miners get the blues. And what better way to be cheered up than watching characters sing, dance, and sometimes die on stage? In the mid 1800s, the thriving town of Virginia City constructed Piper's Opera House.

Now, one might think that an Opera House and a town filled with greedy prospoectors wouldn't mix. On the contrary, the theater survived fires and blizzards, and it remains a popular place for plays and musicals of today.
