By , About.com GuideJune 26, 2012

Man and Superman is a play written by George Bernard Shaw in the early 1900s. It is a battle-of-the-sexes comedy detailing the misadventures of a wealthy bachelor, Jack Tanner, and the attractive young lady who has decided that she will be his wife.

The fourth and final act of Man and Superman takes place in Granada, Spain. Hector's wealthy father, Malone, has arrived to break-up his son's relationship with Violet. (Hector and Violet are secretly married.) When their secret comes out, Tanner and the rest of their friends are quite surprised. Malone declares that he will cut off his son's inheritance. However, Hector wants to be a "man" and work for a living. Even when his father makes amends and his friends offer him money, Hector still wants to earn a living through work.
