Jaz Dorsey has been a busy guy. During the last five years his website, African American Playwrights Exchange, has posted over a thousand blog entries. The website's mission: to get "plays by African American playwrights and plays about the African American experience into the hands of actors and producers." His blog is an invaluable resource to anyone who admires the work of up-and-coming voices in black theater. AAPEX features terrific interviews with dramaturgs, actors and playwrights, as well as reviews and previews of recent shows. Based in Nashville, Dorsey also reports on general theater news and productions happening around him.
In addition to the articles, there is another good reason to bookmark this blog. As you scroll down the website, you'll notice links to literally hundreds of African American playwrights, some renowned, some obscure, all of them fascinating. Keep on scrolling and you'll get to a list of African America Theatre Companies (a couple of the links lead to dead ends, but most of them are active). Keep scrolling even more and you'll find:
- African American Theatre College Programs
- African American Cultural Organizations
- General Resources for Playwrights / Dramatists
Congratulations, Mr. Dorsey, on earning the our Blog of the Month Award for February 2012. Keep up your excellent work! Visit the About Page at AAPEX to learn more about Jaz Dorsey and his blog.

It’s the only place like it on the web. I use it all the time. I’m glad to see it’s getting some recognition.
